Dubstep

Sorry for the lack of posts recently! I've been away, but I'm back now with some fresh, intensely catchy new music that I only just started listening to. If you haven't already heard of it, dubstep is a relatively new "genre" of music that I'm sure will appeal to anyone who likes club or electronic music. Let's break it down,

THE SOUND:
A catchall term for the latest post-jungle tunes out of the U.K. - giant-robot bass farts with dark, minor-key synths and techno-dub beats.

KEY ARTISTS:
New producers like Rusko and Joy Orbison have a light, R&B influenced feel; first-wavers Kode9 and Burial are dark and twisted. I personally recommend youtubing either artists Bassnectar or Borgore.

CHECK IT OUT AT:
Techno hippies and dreadlocked bassheads get their intestines shaken by the massive PA at Dub War, a party at New York club Love.

Sigur Rós

Hey guys, I just wanted to draw your attention to a band named Sigur Rós. They're an Icelandic group (pretty much the most popular musical act from Iceland with the exception of Björk) with a very melodic sound. Their music is honestly some of the most beautiful stuff I have ever heard, and that's saying a lot. An interesting point about the band that's worth mentioning is that while the vocals sound like they are being sung in Icelandic, they really aren't being sung in any language at all. Although the singer draws somewhat on the Icelandic language, he is really singing in an unintelligible made-up language that he has referred to as "gibberish." I think it's nothing short of absolute bliss for the ears. Have a listen, and let me know what you think!
